  I actually haven't been using other people's technology, though my aversion to tutorials sort of caused me grief in engine-making. And I too make the hull of the ship first, then cut into it to make hallways and rooms.

  Yeah, some things that I learned since I started: Try to develope your own technology, it makes your ships look unique to you, also I try to leave as little empty space as possible when building my ships. I personally like to start by drawing the basic shape of the ship, but some like to start with the engines and reactors.

  In most places on the ship BCLN can't withstand the required pressure, this is the case for the engines and the reactors, though I will look into the main laser.
