    I originally did that but the air pressure from the hydrogen combusting caused the mortar shots to fly backwards and blow up the tank every time it happened

    Yeah, but you'd need ammunition storage space, and higher caliber ammo take up lots more space.

    for a tank of that size, You could have a much higher caliber gun.
