  Plus I'm not convinced that having players view the spreadsheet is even the way to go.

  It would be annoying to update. And with google spreadsheets you can do coding.

  I don't think that that's what he means, I think that he means that he dosen't like NWs having, well, solid / real mechanics. Which I understand. But I think that such mechanics could help create a wonderful story, and create logical balanced limitations to military size. Imo an NW with a fairly light weight mechanical aspect that dosen't even require players to use a spreadsheet - since you are all too st- I mean silly to use them -
