    It is called The Solar System because the star is named Sol. It is also called The Sun, but is never called The Sun System because that sounds weird. Other stars and starsystems can also be called suns and solar systems, but are not capitalised.

    the sun is not officially called sol, only in games and movies, sol is actually the god of fire
