    This needs a built in compiler of some sort, not some "Hello World" thing. Try BASIC, it's simple, easy to learn, and was used on very basic computers.

    I use Lubuntu most of the time. I have it on my laptop but I'm also trying to boot it from a USB stick on an old PowerMac G4 (it's hard!).

    Debian Jessie with LXDE. I can also boot into Windows if I want to, which I seldom do.
