Smoke the wheat over fire to preserve it (finnaly my nations past is useful). And salt most of the meats that aren't going to be directly used. Start to develop larger ships with the northern woods in the hopes that they are stronger, preferably 2 story 2 mast ships.

In that case, we just got to the north where hopefully storms aren't so plentiful, start a large scale deforestation project to get us some farm land, begin propaganda stating the greatness of being a colonial volunteer going to live there.
