Alternative history! Russians needed to replace BT-7 and T-26 but T-70 project failed. They decided to make stronger BT-9 instead. It has 60 mm front armor, 30 mm side armor, 20 mm rear and top armor. I give credit to HarunK for original BT-7.

Hey, man. You're wrong if you say that all Russian MBTs "basically use T-54 chassis". Firstly, T-54 had 5-wheeled chassis while all MBTs since (and including) T-64 had 6-wheeled (and much more constructional differences which i don't want to describe). Moreover, even T-64, T-72/90 and T-80 have different construction of chassis.

Obviously. The tank is not made to resist PROT.

the BT-SV wasn't a new chassis, the only difference is the amount of armor added onto the hull

BT-SV looks nice but it is too different from BT-7. Making a new chassis is more expensive than modifying the existing one. All Russian MBTs except T-14 Armata basically use T-54 chassis, they just have some ERA and composite armor, increasing their effective thickness.
