  "if you publish the finished version it will stay longer, given that it's good enough" Which means that the quality requirement for unfinished saves to get to the front page is less strict. This is a reason for publishing WIP saves. "Also you can acces the save's history any time" The save being made in real time means that people can give feedback at each iterations and the person making the save can easily make modifications without having to rework other parts of the save.

  Publishing a WIP save and updating makes it last longer on the front page. That's one reason. It can also show the process of making the save, which is intersting and can help other people with making their own, even unrelated, saves. I think these two reasons are more than enough to justify publishing a WIP save
