    Yes that's my thinking. In this form, (The RC series) it's extremely useful. Most other ships were not capable of carrying any amount of cargo, or had the ability to dock small shuttles.

    oh i see. i never thought about the implications of external reactors for exploratory vehicle but it allows for more internal space for cargo and findings

    The general "Reactor in back" and long docking/cargo/weapons bay towards the front. I've seen that basic design repeated several times in your fleet(s). Of course this is RC technology, which requires neutron pulse engines (Which must be mounted on the sides).
