    Should I use the current liquid form coolant, or a gas based coolant? I know that oxygen is alright to use in this reactor, and is actually quite good a heat transfering.

    The reactor is very safe. The meltdown you had may have been the result of waiting too long before starting the reactor. This is because the bizs turns into a liquid at low temp, and this allows the super-hot neutrons to get into the cooling system.
