    @PortalPlayer You can get a near-parabolic dish with an elipse. I have actually tried and succeeded.

    NoVIcE: Like most simple reflectors in TPT, it's quite clearly an ellipse.

    There are other types of dishes but im not entirely sure how they all work. This one looks like a "parabolic dish", and the "how it works IRL" comments down below i made, are referring to parabolic dishes as well. BTW off-topic: stealth planes avoid being tracked by having a special coationg that absorbs the radio waves.
