  this actually really helps when making a polo reactor. The smaller you want to make your reactor, the slower the neutrons should be. You need a slow neutron creator to start such a reactor

  @JusticeFighter well reflectors increase the time neutron spends in reaction zone so its the same thing

  Instead, the reason is because the (rare) U-235 atoms react better with slow neutrons than with fast neutrons, while the (common) U-238 lets slow neutrons pass by much better than fast neutrons, so reactors don't need their fuel to be enriched (filtering out U-238, expensive process)

  This is not the reason why reactors have neutron moderators - how long a neutron is in the reaction area doesn't matter, because the reaction area walls are reflective
