Mercury is a very good heat conductor, and a perfect coolant. This is what made this fusion reactor design possible. The uranium in the coor helps with keeping the reaction going, and the reaction also keeps the uranium hot via producing pressure.

    remove all the mercury and watch the reactor core slowly melt everything around it

    if u let this run for too long, the plasma will melt to the bottom of the reactor
