I think he wants to make nukes as close to reality as possible, which is to be expected considering the success of the Oppenheimer movie. Also, "proper bombs" are pretty boring by now, they all look pretty much the same, they take ages to explode, and they have sacrificed realism in the name of being destructive but then you can't use the really destructive stuff like DRAY and CRAY because that's against the unwritten rules.
