    P and N are not for the material BEING positive or negative, its for the amount of electrons (negative charge) the material has. P-Type contains Boron, which has less electrons than silicon(doesn't make it negative!), while N-Type contains Phosphorus, which has more electrons than silicon. Don't blame yourself, it's a common misconception and is nothing to be ashamed of :D
